How Much Nudity Does Instagram Allow?
We Could Have Told Them.

This week the New York Times asked how much nudity Instagram allows, and arrived where every art-nude photographer arrived long ago. There are no rules. There is only enforcement, and the only thing consistent about it is how inconsistent it is.

We could have told them. NUDE built an audience the platform itself helped us grow, then lost it overnight to the same arbitrary line. Rihanna posted a nude and her account came back. Ours never did. Enforcement bends for the famous and erases everyone else. So we started again, and we are still here.

If Helmut Newton Were Alive Today, Instagram Would Ban Him.

There is a permanent exhibition in Berlin devoted to Helmut Newton, the man who defined the visual language of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar for four decades. In June 2026 the foundation opened two new exhibitions. The critics praised them. The queues formed.

And if Newton posted those same images on Instagram today, his account would be suspended before the day was out. This is the world fine art nude photography exists in, and the one NUDE Magazine has navigated for seven years and 58 issues. We thought it was time to talk about it honestly.
